Get Ahead of Fire Ants with Extinguish Plus

Effective and economical fire ant control calls for proactive planning and treatment with the right product. At Central Life Sciences, we have the solutions and the resources you’re looking for to help eliminate the threats fire ant pose to your operation, from endangering workers and livestock to damaging equipment and commodities.

Extinguish® Plus fire ant bait can be applied around saplings and non-bearing trees in major production or farming areas, on residential turf and landscapes, on commercial ornamental and non-bearing nursery stock, and more.

How to Get Ahead

Treating with Extinguish® Plus will help you get ahead of fire ants because of its two-way action, designed to help ensure complete control by eliminating colonies without colony relocation. It combines the knockdown power of an adulticide (Hydramethylnon) and the long-lasting control of an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) (S)-methoprene. The IGR sterilizes the queen and prevents rebound, while the adulticide kills problem worker ants.

Because it is highly attractive to fire ants and it packs a two-way punch, Extinguish® Plus is able to achieve the following:

  • Stops young colonies from developing into problem colonies
  • Destroys visible and hidden colonies
  • Approved for indoor and outdoor use
  • Starts killing ants immediately after ingestion
  • Can be used as a broadcast application or used to treat individual mounds

How to Apply Intentionally

Timing is everything when it comes to applying Extinguish® Plus for maximum efficacy. Keep in mind that the IGR makes Extinguish® Plus a long-term solution in addition to the faster-acting adulticide. The insect growth regulator, (S)-methoprene, is sterilizing the queen to prevent rebound and mound movement while the adulticide begins killing ants immediately after ingestion, producing noticeable results within a week.

  • Take care to apply product when area is dry from dew or irrigation.
  • Apply product when area is completely dry, outside 6 hours of a rain event. The bait will become unattractive to ants if it becomes wet.
  • Use 2-5 tablespoons (See Directions for Use) of Extinguish® Plus at a rate of 1.5 lb. per acre.
  • Apply as needed, when ants are active and foraging, and when soil temperatures are above 60°F.

How do you determine when ants are foraging?

  • Place a crumbled potato chip, corn chip, or other greasy snack near the fire ant mound.
  • Once you see them taking the chips, it is the best time to apply Extinguish® Plus.

Extinguish® Plus is designed to offer long-term fire ant control across many markets, and meets USDA fire ant quarantine requirements. When it’s time for you to get ahead of fire ants, Extinguish® Plus can help.
